What to Expect With ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant

As you are probably aware, there are temporary solutions to hair loss, such as wigs and weave, but there are also hair transplant surgery options available in the Palo Alto area. One such treatment is relatively newer, having been approved by the FDA in 2011: the ARTAS robotic hair transplant. There are few things you may want to know about what to expect before, during, and after your hair transplant procedure.

Why ARTAS?

Once upon a time, the only course of option for hair transplants were hair plugs, which didn’t produce results that looked great. In fact, they sometimes looked ill-fitted and a little awkward. Times have changed and there are new methods for hair transplants. ARTAS helps the surgeon work more efficiently and work without leaving a lineal scar.

Before Your Treatment

You may be asked to refrain from smoking, alcohol, and even certain medications for a specific length of time before your procedure. Your surgeon will provide more detailed instructions.

On the day of the procedure, it will start early in the morning, and you’ll be done by the afternoon. It’s recommended to wear loose, comfortable clothing, partially because you’ll be sitting for a long period of time.

During Your Treatment

The procedure is actually very short, and it’s an outpatient procedure performed in the office. The patient will receive a local anesthetic, and pain should be minimal. The procedure lasts anywhere between four to eight hours, depending on the scope of the treatment.

The patient stays seated in a comfortable position during the treatment, and it’s recommended that you bring music to listen to, or even a movie or two to watch. You’ll stay relaxed throughout the procedure with minimal discomfort.

After Your Treatment

When you go home, you may want to wear a loose hat to keep your head covered, as your scalp will be a little sensitive to the sun after your treatment. You may experience some swelling and minor discomfort for 1-3 days after the procedure, and you can generally resume all of your normal activities with a few days. Your hair transplant surgeon will give you more specific instructions on your after care.

Results

While results are not guaranteed, you can expect to start seeing results over the next few months. Noticeable growth will happen within about three months, and you’ll notice most of the growth take place between five to eight months. New hair can be cut, styled, and washed just like you used to do before the procedure.

Disclaimer: We are unable to guarantee any result, even though most of our patients do see success. The results of our services will vary greatly to each patient’s level of commitment and compliance with the program.
