Is ARTAS Hair Transplant Right for You?

Experiencing significant hair loss in your life is an unfortunate reality for many Americans, which leads them to seek a robotic hair transplant such as ARTAS in Palo Alto. While getting this issue fixed can be a great thing for many people, you also have to realize that a single treatment is not going to be suitable for every patient. There are certain criteria that might disqualify you from being able to benefit from a certain treatment. That is why we have laid out the different issues that might make you ineligible for ARTAS.

Widespread Hair Loss

Unfortunately if your hair loss has become too widespread then it can mean that ARTAS is not right for you. This is because ARTAS needs healthy existing patient follicles to use to create a fuller look on top of your head, so if there are not enough to harvest then the process will not be able to do its job. It also might mean that you have a certain genetic defect that ARTAS will not be able to combat.

Medications

As with most surgeries, certain medication can affect the success of ARTAS. In this case it is because there are specific types of medications that you might be taking on an ongoing basis which can result in a lack of healthy follicles, leading to continual loss. ARTAS might be able to repair some of the damage caused by these drugs, but as long as you continue taking them then it is going to continue to happen even after the transplant, making it essentially useless.

Damaged Scalp

If you have experienced any surgeries, trauma, burns, or other types of significant injuries on your scalp then it could have led to an abundance of scar tissue being present on your head. This means that a sizeable portion of your follicles are likely permanently damaged, which is going to negatively affect your eligibility for ARTAS surgery.

You need a sufficient amount of both healthy follicles and healthy scalp tissue to transplant the follicles into, so if both are significantly damaged then you obviously are not going to be able to go through with the surgery successfully. The good news is that in order for scar tissue or an otherwise damaged scalp to prevent you from getting ARTAS surgery, the damage would have to be quite significant. So even if you have a small amount of damage you will probably still be an acceptable candidate for the treatment.
